To carry on with my first beach body blog post, I thought I’d share a few of my home workout routines – burning those calories without a gym membership!
As I previously mentioned, I’ve been using the app and website Nutracheck to keep track of how many calories I’m eating and how many calories I’m burning, which has been totally great so far. As you may already know, I’m a student (still struggling to find a summer job if anyone can help me out!!) so a gym membership is kind of out of the question right now. But all is not lost! With the help of the Wii fit and various fitness DVDs alongside Nutracheck, I still feel like I’m getting that well needed health kick without spending any money!
I’ve reviewed all the the workout DVDs I’ve been doing in the comfort of my own living room and I find they’re a lot more fun than the gym, as I don’t have to drive anywhere and I can mix up the workout every day. The Nutracheck app has a HUGE selection of popular fitness DVDs and all my ones are on their database so I can really easily see how many calories I’m burning in as many minutes.
Davina: Power of 3
This Davina DVD has 3 workouts of about 15 minutes each, which focus on legs and bums, upper body and abdominals, as well as regular fat burning intervals. The first time I did legs and bums I ACHED! But I’ve really learned to love that ache 😉 I like that there’s 3 sections as you can do 2 or 3, but still feel like you’ve had a decent workout. The Nutracheck app shows that, with this Davina DVD, you can burn 250 calories in 30 minutes! Because I’ve done this DVD a few times, listening to the trainers can get a bit boring, so I mute it and listen to my own music and it’s still easy to follow.
Rosemary Conley’s: Brand New You!
This DVD is made up of 7 sections, which cover the whole body – fat burning, toning for hips, waist and thighs, toning of abs and upper body and also toning on the floor. I find this DVD fun because it’s dance-y and there’s different levels of intensity to follow, however, I think it’s probably more for people aged 30+ as it’s not overly challenging. I did break a good sweat though! This workout burns 151 calories in 30 minutes.
My favourite exercises on the Wii Fit are the free jogging and boxing. With free jogging, you can jog on the spot but watch TV at the same time. Even though jogging on the spot doesn’t burn as many as normal jogging, 30 mins on the Wii fit still burns 106 calories! I find that boxing is one of the least monotonous exercises and you can really feel the burn in your arms the next day! Goodbye bingo wings…
As well as these 3 home workouts, I’ve also recently started doing Wii Zumba and Joanna Hall’s 28 Day Body Plan, and it’s also my birthday on Sunday (wooo!) so I’ve asked for a couple more of Davina’s DVDs! If I think they’re successful and a good spend of money, I will review them on here too 🙂
