If you’re anything like me, you’ve experienced being sat at your laptop reaaally wanting to write a blog post but just not knowing what to write about. In my opinion, having a blog that hasn’t been updated since October 2014 is more detrimental to your online rep than not having a blog at all. So, I’m going to attempt to solve this first world PR blogging problem. Here’s a list of 10 blog post ideas for PR bloggers!
1. Tell the story of how you found PR
If you’re anywhere near as nosy as me, these are always a good read. Plus, they’re a lot of fun to write – almost a warm up to writing your auto-biography which is my personal aim in life. “The Life of Liv – coming to a book shelf near you.” Dun dun duh.
2. Start up a blog series
Last summer, I was bored and with a 4 month break from uni ahead of me I didn’t want to completely lose touch with the PR world so I decided to start up a blog series, which is still going on now. A lot of blog series I see on other PR blogs are about 4-6 posts long, but depending on its success and popularity, keep it going as long as ya like!
3. Diary of work experience/internship
If you’re doing a work placement, internship or just shadowing a PR pro for a couple of days, let your readers know! Write what you learned and what you found difficult. I will mention to let your placement provider know what info about their work/your (hopefully positive) opinions of them will be released online. They should be fine with you just not mentioning their name!
4. Write a list of your favourite PR blogs
I did this post over a year ago and, to this day, its still one of my most viewed posts. Plus, the bloggers you include in the post will really appreciate and give you all the retweets and whatnot. This reminds me, I need to do an updated my fave PR blogs post…
Relationship goals, squad goals and even bloomin’ breakfast goals are all the rage nowadays, may as well jump on that bandwagon with a blog post about your career goals for the future: what sector you want to work in, where you want to live, if you want to marry Prince Harry etc…
6. Facts about you!
I’ve never actually done this post, but its on my to-do list. It may be because I’m so super ultra nosy, but don’t we all like to know a bit about our favourite bloggers outside of the PR world?!
7. Talk about whether you believe a degree is necessary to work in PR
This topic is quite widely discussed in the PR world. Is it worth a billion trillion squids to go to uni to get a degree when you could possibly work your way up instead? Let your readers know your advice/opinion.
8. Advice for new PR students
Before I started uni, I trawled excessively through PR blogs about what to expect from university. I love doing advice posts to new students: it makes me feel like I’m giving back to my younger self. Lol.
9. Do a Q&A
I’ve been wanting to do this for a while but I’m scared no one will ask me questions and it’ll just be real awks. But for anyone who isn’t a scaredy cat like moi, tweet asking your followers about any questions they have on a particular PR subject you know about.
10. Why you love working in PR
Whether its because you love writing/networking/doing interviews/tweeting yadee yada ya, write about it. Chances are, someone who is wondering whether they should study PR will read it and think ‘hmmm I like writing…hmmm I like talking to anyone who will listen..’ and there ya go, you have a PR convert.
Let me know if you try any of these posts out!
